Passivhaus Standard Targets Net Zero Carbon Emissions
Buntingford First School, designed to the rigorous Passivhaus standard, is a showcase of energy efficiency and sustainability, aimed at minimising energy use and reducing carbon emissions. Clanfield Systems Ltd. was entrusted with providing a Building Energy Management System (BEMS) to control and monitor the HVAC systems, ensuring that the school remains well-ventilated and maintains comfortable temperatures throughout the year.
During the late stages of construction, it became clear that additional monitoring was needed in the classrooms. With traditional cable runs no longer feasible, we introduced a cutting-edge LoRaWAN solution using the Sontay SORA product. This innovative approach allowed us to implement comprehensive monitoring across the entire school without the need for additional wiring, preserving the building’s design integrity.
The BEMS, built around a Trend IQ4 system with an IQ Vision head-end, offers the client full control over the building’s environment. The client-server architecture of IQ Vision also enabled us to create a dashboard of key readings, which can be displayed on a monitor in the reception area, providing real-time insights into the building’s performance.
This project exemplifies our ability to deliver flexible, high-tech solutions that adapt to evolving requirements, ensuring that Buntingford First School meets its ambitious sustainability goals.
